The Cummins® X15 Engine
The Cummins® X15 is a heavy-duty, 14.9-litre inline six-cylinder diesel engine with a turbocharged, aftercooled design, a single cylinder head, and four valves per cylinder, built to handle some of the toughest jobs in commercial transport and off-highway equipment. On-highway ratings span three series to suit different priorities: the Efficiency Series produces 400 to 500 hp and 1,450 to 1,850 lb-ft of torque, the Performance Series delivers 485 to 565 hp and 1,650 to 2,050 lb-ft of torque, and the Productivity Series tops out at 430 to 605 hp and 1,650 to 2,050 lb-ft of torque. Across the range, peak torque is available as low as 1,000 rpm, giving strong pulling power for heavy loads and steep grades.
The X15 is best known as the powerplant behind Class 8 trucks, but its reach extends well beyond the highway. An off-highway version of the engine is also widely specified for excavators, wheel loaders, articulated dump trucks, mining trucks, road milling machines and cranes, and a marine variant supports both propulsion and auxiliary power roles in commercial and recreational vessels.
