KMP Overhaul Kits for Caterpillar® 3412 Engines

Caterpillar’s 3412 has spent four decades in engine rooms, generator yards and haul-truck frames, valued for the kind of stubborn, field-proven durability that keeps a forty-year-old block still worth rebuilding. When it finally needs one, KMP Brand supplies the overhaul kit to do it properly.

We stock KMP out-of-frame engine overhaul kit KMP9Y7212.OFK-12 for the Caterpillar® 3412 engine with 60M prefix. Valued for its straightforward maintenance and absence of sensitive electronic controls the 3412 engine is known for its robust V12 configuration, high horsepower output, and long service life. The 3412 remains a trusted choice across marine propulsion, offshore operations, mining, industrial power generation, and oilfield applications.

A V-12 built for continuous heavy load

The 3412 shares its DNA with Caterpillar’s 3408, the same 65-degree V-block architecture, wet cylinder liners, offset-journal crankshaft and four-valve heads, stretched to twelve cylinders for serious displacement and torque.

It shipped naturally aspirated, single-turbocharged and sequentially turbocharged depending on generation, and the electronically controlled 3412E, pushed available power well beyond the mechanical originals.

The primary reason it has remained in service long after newer engines superseded it on the spec sheet is straightforward: it is designed to be rebuilt. A well-maintained 3412 is not retired when it wears out; it is disassembled, restored to specification, and returned to service.

One ENGINE, four industries

The 3412 was never designed for a single application. Its architecture was rated across a broad range, from approximately 476 hp up to more than 1,450 hp in high-output marine configurations, and deployed wherever continuous, dependable torque was required.

Marine propulsion

marine engine parts

The CAT 3412 engine is used in trawlers, tugs, crew boats and offshore supply vessels from 70 to 150 ft.

Power generation

power generation

Standby and continuous-duty genset packages, typically 3412C variants running 480V systems rated into the hundreds of kilowatts.

Mining & construction

mining machine engine parts

Powering haul trucks and other heavy off-highway equipment, rated for high-torque, low-rpm earth-moving duty.

Oil, gas & industrial

Skid mounted pump

Skid-mounted pump and compressor drives, forestry and agricultural plant – anywhere a job needs long duty cycles with minimal downtime.

KMP keeps the 3412 in service

Wet liners glaze, ring lands wear, bearing clearances open up, and gasket faces stop sealing the way they did new. None of that means the block is done, it means it’s due for a rebuild, which is exactly what a 3412 was engineered to survive more than once.

The question isn’t whether the engine is worth rebuilding. It’s what condition-defining parts you rebuild it with.

  • Cylinder liners and pistons carrying most of the running hours
  • Main, thrust and connecting rod bearings holding clearance
  • Upper and lower gasket sets sealing every mating face
  • Valve train components keeping breathing on spec

KMP Brand has supplied aftermarket replacement diesel engine parts since 1993, and has held ISO 9001 certification for the production and distribution of its components since 2003. Our overhaul kits are built specifically to OEM standards and shipped to distributors and workshops worldwide.
